Come Hither Covers

‘Come Hither - A Collection of Rhymes and Poems for the Young of all Ages’, Made by Walter de la Mare and Embellished by Alec Buckles, published by Constable & Co, 1923.’

Walter de la Mare was a close friend of Siegfried Sassoon and this anthology contains Sassoon’s poem The Dug-Out.

Sassoon mentions this book in a letter to Dame Felicitas Corrigan, recorded in her book ‘Siegfried Sassoon: Poet’s Pilgrimage’ (1973). He wrote on 23rd December, 1953: “Have remained recumbent, enjoying de la M.’s Come Hither - the best of all anthologies, being his, and again delighting in his preface and Appendix.”
